When I treat my body more like a temple and less like a trash heap, I notice the positive ripple effect that it has on my body. But sometimes, no matter how many “good choices” I make, I have little left in my reserves. This might present as me being even more tired than usual, maybe my joints are achy, or I feel emotionally fragile.
Enter the delightful evening wind-down tonic (no, it’s not a bottle of red) found inside this Calming Evening Latte.
Sip this soothing drink an hour or two before bed to help you unwind and boost your vital life force within.
Ingredients:
1 cup whole milk (or substitute with my favorite, oat milk)
3 cardamom pods, slightly crushed
1-inch cinnamon stick
1 or 2 Medjool dates, pitted and chopped
¼ teaspoon vanilla extract (if desired)
Serves one
In a small saucepan, pour in the milk and then add the cinnamon and cardamom pods. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce the heat and simmer, uncovered, for 10 minutes. Remove the pot from the heat, take out the cardamom pods and cinnamon stick, and allow a bit of time for the milk to cool down.
Once it’s a bit cooler, pour the milk into a blender. Add in the date/s and vanilla (if you’re using), blending until it’s nice and smooth.
Enjoy this delicious drink warm or heat it up a bit more and sip away.
Yummy side notes: If you’re trying to lose a bit of weight, you can cut the recipe in half or dilute the milk with water. And if you’re a feisty person by nature, reduce the amount of cinnamon or ditch that component altogether.
Also, be sure to allow at least an hour between when you finish the shake and when you’re going to bed. That way your bladder won’t wake you from your peaceful slumber.
